Improving Readability of Characters on the TFT Display

Some times the display on TFT screen blurs the characters, and a couple of hours in front of the screen the eyes will start hurting. Here is a tip :

Displaying sharp characters requires the screen to be operated in the local resolution. None of the Notebook manufacturers display the characters on the TFT display optimally as the edge smoothing in the display driver is set to "ClearTyper". The characters can be read better only when you disable "ClearType" this is how you can do it :

  • Right click on the Desktop and then on "Properties". Then click on "Appearance > Effects".
  • Tick the box in front of "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts", and select "Standard" from the scroll down menu.
  • Now click on "OK" and then on "Apply". The characters will now be clearer and you can work on your notebook without feeling any strain on your eyes.

Err, the point of Cleartype is to sharpen text characters on TFT displays when the resolution is set to the native resolution (and there is no reason why you would run at a non-native resolution for desktop applications).

Standard smoothing is best for CRTs, or displays that you can rotate (because the cleartype method can only sharpen in one dimension due to the RGB pixel layout that is used to implement this).

What you are recommending is actually contrary to what people should be setting. Never mind the bad grammar and spelling.

You submitted this to Slashdot in all seriousness?

Many of them suggest ClearType in TFT and Standard in CRT but according me I recommend the standard type in CRT and TFT. I suggest my customer's Standard Type for their laptops and they feel happy with the resolution. And i submitted in slashdot with seriousness.
